Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaaye - Mukesh

Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaaye

This song is that wonderful nostalgic song “Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jjaaye Saanjh Ki Dulhan Badan Churaaye”. Most people recall this song as a Mukesh song, or as a song picturised on Rajesh Khanna, but let us not forget the great poetry of Yogesh. It is his lyrics, combined by the superb music of Salil Chaudhary that has helped made this song such a memorable song.

This song has a calming effect on the listener.  And it describe such songs as “mental massage” song. Just listen to this song, and one is bound to feel relaxed.
This song, like the other songs from this movie, is an unforgettable gem.

kahin door jab din dhal jaaye
saanjh ki dulhan badan churaaye

koyi sapnon ke deep jalaaye
deep jalaaye
kahin door jab din dhal jaaye
saanjh ki dulhan badan churaaye
chupke se aaye

kabhi yoon hi
jab huyin
bojhal saansen
bhar aayin baithe baithe
jab yoonhi aankhen
kabhi yoon hi
jab huyin
bojhal saansen
bhar aayin baithe baithe
jab yoonhi aankhen
tabhi machal ke
pyaar se chal ke
chhuye koyi mujhe par

kahin door jab din dhal jaaye
saanjh ki dulhan badan churaaye
chupke se aaye

kahin to ye
dil kabhi
mil nahin paate
kahin pe nikal aayen
janmon ke naate
kahin to ye
dil kabhi
mil nahin paate
kahin pe nikal aayen
janmon ke naate
hai meethhi uljhan
bairi apnaa man
apnaa hi hoke sahe dard paraaye
dard paraaye
kahin door jab din dhal jaaye
saanjh ki dulhan badan churaaye
chupke se aaye

dil jaane
mere saare
bhed ye gahre
ho gaye kaise mere
sapne sunahre
dil jaane
mere saare
bhed ye gahre
ho gaye kaise mere
sapne sunahre
ye mere sapne,
yahi to hain apne
mujhse judaa na honge inke ye saaye,
inke ye saaye
kahin door jab din dhal jaaye
saanjh ki dulhan badan churaaye
chupke se aaye
mere khayaalon ke aangan mein
koyi sapnon ke deep jalaaye
deep jalaaye
kahin door jab din dhal jaaye
saanjh ki dulhan badan churaaye
chupke se aaye

Ye kya huaa kaise huaa kab hua

Ye Kya Huaa Kaise Huaa Kab Hua

“Amar Prem” (1971) is a movie which had the cream of Hindi movie talents at work in it. Rajesh Khanna, the superstar along with Sharmila Tagore figured in this movie. R D Burman, the hottest property among the music directors, composed music for this movie. Kishore Kumar, who had taken male playback singing world by storm, was also there to sing for this movie.

With creme de la creme of Hindi movie industry at the disposal of this movie, the movie had to strike gold at the box office, which it duly did. I have no idea if the movie is still popular, but as far as the music of this movie is comcerned, the music is just timeless. The songs were big rage during 1970s, and their effect has not worn off till now, some four decades later.

As many as five songs from this movie have been discussed in this song. Here is the sixth song.

This song is sung by Kishore Kumar and it is picturised on Rajesh Khanna. This song is written by Anand Bakshi.

The simple and seemingly ordinary lyrics have been rendered by Kishore Kumar so well that this song quickly became an iconic song.

Here is this song from “Amar Prem” (1971) which had stood 9th in Binaca geetmala final of 1972.

Translation from Hindi to English :

I would have had no motivation to live if it was not for you
Had I not received your support,
I would be caught in a whirlpool, and would be unable to reach the shore
I could have still drowned at the shore by strong currents,
but for your helping hand

I do not have words to tell what you mean to me
You are the last hope of my life
I would not have had my hopes kept alive, if it was not for you

I will happily share all your sorrows
I will not complain come what may
World has laughhed at me, happiness has bypassed me
I would have had no motivation to live but for me

Suno Kaho Suna kaha kuchh huaa kyaa

Posted on: May 10, 2009

There is nothing like a song picturised on Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz to cheer one up.

Here is just that kind of a song. It is from “Aapki Kasam” (1974). Here Mumtaz for a change is endoring Australian colours ( yellow) rather than the usual Dutch colur (orange). Also, the two are not getting drenched in rain in this song.
Of course, their onscreen chemistry is as good as ever, making it a pleasure to watch this picturisation.
The song is written by Anand Bakshi and R D Burman composed the mnusic. Kishore Kumar and Lata have sung this song with gusto.
This song is great to listen to and watch. And there used to be many such songs in their movies. No wonder the movie goers lapped up their movies.

Song-Suno kaho kuchh hua kyaa (Aap Ki Kasam ) (1974) Singers-Kishore Kumar,Lata, Lyrics- Anand Bakshi, MD- R D Burman
Lyrics
suno

abhi to nahin
hmm kuchh bhi nahin
chali hawaa

kuchh huaa kyaa?
abhi to nahin
kuchh bhi nahin

teri qasam ye dilkash nazaare
karte hain ishaare jo samjhe koyi
mere sanam ye khamosh aankhen
bhi karti hain baaten jo samjhe koyi
samajhaa nahin tum samjhaa do
are suno
kaho
kahaa sunaa
kuch hua kya
abhi to nahin
kuchh bhi nahin

bas jo chale to subah se lekar
rahoon shaam tak main tere sang mein
gar ho sake to main apne dilbar

baaton mein naa uljhaao

It is generally belived that commercial (mainstream) bollywood movies were make belive ones whereas “art” movies depicted reality. Not always.

Here is a song from an out an out commercial movie called “Aapki Kasam” picturised on the saleable pair of actors of the time viz Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz. Does one find the feelings depicted in the song unbelievable ? Not at all. On the contrary, it is a very realistic and natural picturisation of the feelings depicted in the song.
Rajesh Khanna is feeling amorous towards Mumtaz in a park full with lovers in various compromising poses, but Mumtaz pours cold water on his passion by forbiddding him to come closer since they are supposed to abstain from love for the day. Rajesh Khanna ofcourse reasons with her, but Mumtaz, like an archtypical Indian housewife of those days would have none of it. Rajesh Khanna implores her not to play hard to get since it is obvious that she too is as willing as him. Yes, willing I am , but today we are supposed to abstain from love, is the reply from her.
The song is depicted wonderfully well. One could not have come up with any better lyrics for this situation than Anand Bakshi has come up with here. A wonderful song has been picturised even more wonderfully. A pure gem !

Song-paas nahin aana bhool nahin jaana (Aapki kasam ) (1974) Singer-Lata , Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi , MD-R D Burman
Lyrics
Paas nahin aana bhool nahin jaana
Paas nahin aana bhool nahin jaana
tumko saugandh hai ke aaj muhabbat band hai
Paas nahin aana bhool nahin jaana
tumko saugandh hai ke aaj muhabbat band hai

kitna..kitna mazaa hai aise jeene me
dhak dhak bhi hoti nahi seene me
kitna mazaa hai aise jeene me
dhak dhak bhi hoti nahi seene me
koi bechaini nahin
kitna anand hai ke aaj muhabbat band hai

mat chhed apne deewaane ko
rahne de tu is bahaane ko
he mat chhed apne deewaane ko
rahne de tu is bahaane ko
hothon pe naa hai magar dil to razaamand hai
razamand hai
magar aaj muhabbat band hai
Paas nahin aana bhool nahin jaana
tumko saugandh hai ke aaj muhabbat band hai
Paas nahin aana bhool nahin jaana
tumko saugandh hai ke aaj muhabbat… band hai

Karwaten badalte rahe saari raat ham

Posted on: December 29, 2010

I was under the impression that I had already discussed this song in the past. It turns out that I have discussed as many as three songs from this movie, but not this one.

This song is sung by Lata and Kishore Kumar. It is picturised on Mumtaz and Rajesh Khanna. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist and R D Burman composed the music.
This song is as memorable as the other songs from this movie that have already been discussed. On the ooccasion of Rajesh Khanna’s birthday (29th december),
here is this song from “Aap Ki Kasam” (1974).

Song-Karwaten badalte rahe saari raat ham (Aapki Kasam) (1974) Singers-Lata, Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-R D Burman
Both
Lyrics
o ho ho
ho ho ho
o ho ho
hmm hmm hmm

karwaten badalte rahe saari raat ham,
karwaten badalte rahe saari raat ham,
aap ki qasam
aap ki qasam
karwaten badalte rahe saari raat ham,
aap ki qasam
aap ki qasam
gham na karo din judaayi ke bahut hain kam,
aap ki qasam
aap ki qasam

yaad tum aate rahe
ik hook si uthhti rahi
neend mujhse
neend se main bhaagti chhupti rahi
raat bhar bairan nigodi chaandni chubhhti rahi
aag si jalti rahi
girti rahi shabnam,
aap ki qasam
aap ki qasam

jheel si aankhon mein aashiq doob ke kho jaayegaa
zulf ke saaye mein dil armaan bharaa so jaayegaa
tum chale jaao nahin to kuchh na kuchh ho jaayegaa
dagmagaa jaayenge aise haal mein qadam,
aap ki qasam
aap ki qasam

roothh jaayen ham to tum hamko manaa lenaa sanam
door hon to paas hamko tum bulaa lenaa sanam
kuchh gilaa ho to galey hamko lagaa lenaa sanam
toot na jaaye kabhi ye pyaar ki qasam
aap ki qasam
aap ki qasam
aap ki qasam
aap ki qasam
aap ki qasam
aap ki qasam
aap ki qasam
aap ki qasam
aap ki qasam

A mast mast song from 1970s, that had everyone dancing on their feet. The song is great, sung wonderfully by Kishore and Lata, and it has a characteristic foot tapping music by R D Burman. It was filmed on the reigning heart throbs Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz. And let us not forget the lyrics. It is the lyrics of Anand Bakshi, so simple, so effective, and so easy to sing that has made this song one of the perennial favourites for most Bollywood music lovers.

Mumtaz, as usual, is full of spontaneity, bubbly enthusiasm and gay abandon. Presence of Mumtaz enhances the pleasure of watching the song.
Rajesh Khanna, no great shakes as a dancer, shakes his leg in a characteristic way. He would bend slightly forward, and rotate haltingly on his feet once or twice, and would also move unsteadily forward and back, all this while his right hand would be raised skyward. In all, he gave the appearance of a lattoo (Top) trying to rotate on its axis, but falling away after two rotations. But he was the reigning superstar, and even this mannerism had spawned millions of admirers trying to dance the same ungainly way in those days.
A genuinely feel good song, that has not aged one bit, nor looks like doing so. And this song rightly deserves its evergreen stature.

Arre bajao re bajao, imaandaari se bajao

Translation
It is very difficult to translate a song like this into English.Still, he is my non literal translation of the key lines.
Hail Shiv hail Shankar
Let us be safe from danger
I imbibed some on your name
I swear on God

I may fall down, I may hurt myself
unless you stop me from falling by holding me

I see two for one and four for two
That is what happens when two hearts meet
There is ground over my head and sky beneath my feet
I swear on God

Let me lie down with my head resting on your shoulder
Let things take their own course, as they may like to take
Under these circumstances, your intentions do not appear honourable to me

with our condition like this, how will we go home
Do not worry, they will come and take us home

Whatever it was,but it was great fun,my dear

“Aap Ki Kasam” (1974) was a Filmyug Private Limited production. It was produced and directed by J Omprakash. The movie had Rajesh Khanna, Mumtaz, Sanjeev Kumar, Lolita Chatterjee, Rehman, Ranjeet, Asrani, Jayashree.T., Keshto Mukherjee, Dina Pathak, A.K.Hangal, Junior Mehmood, V.Gopal, Ruby Myers(aka senior Sulochana), Ratna, Master Chickoo, Murad, Sunder, Brahm Bhardwaj, Satyen Kappu etc in it.

The movie was one of the last movies of Rajesh Khanna as a superstar and also opposite Mumtaz, before his decline began.
The songs of this movie were superb, and are remembered to this day. I have discussed as many as five songs from this movie in the past. Here is another song from the movie. This song is sung by Lata. It is picturised as a get together song where Mumtaz, playing the wife of a jealous Rajesh Khanna is asked to sing a song, with Sanjeev Kumar, her ex flame, playing the sitar. And Rajesh Khanna, suspecting the two of them of carrying out an affair, drowns himself in alcohol, as the other guests listen to the song, motionless and grim faced, which was the code of conduct for guests invited to such get togethers in Hindi movies. :)
Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

I know an acquaintance who would casually go to a “paan” shop, buy “paan” and talk to the “paanwaala” in an UP Bhaiyya style. If he saw a Baraat coming up with the Baraatis dancing, he would nonchalantly join the Baraat and dance a few jigs himself.

When I see Rajesh Khanna movies, I find Rajesh Khanna doing the same, except that I never saw Rajesh Khanna eating “paan”. For instance, I saw Rajesh Khanna ( there were two of him in that movie) doing a jig singing “meri pyari bahaniya banegi dulhaniya” in “Saccha Jhootha”.
In “Aan Milo Sajna”, Rajesh Khanna appears out of nowhere, sings and dances with a few village girls, and after the conclusion of the song, rides on a horse and nonchalantly goes away. Our beloved Asha Parekh watches him from a distance, amused and/ or bemused, standing beside her Jeep.
And what a song it is too ! “yahaan wahaan saare jahaan mein tera raaj hai” was such a rage those days that this song stands out ( as far as I am concerned) in a movie full of outstanding songs.
Kishore kumar has sung this song with gusto, and the enthusiasm that he put behind the song can be felt every time one listens to this song.
Rajesh Khanna is at his charming best in this song. He is seen dancing ( sort of) accompanied by his trusted sidekick Junior Mahmood, who looked more like Junior Jeetendra to me.
Anand Bakshi is the lyricist, whereas such wonderful dance music could only be a composition of Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Song-Yahaan wahaan saare jahaan mein tera raaj hai (Aan Milo Sajna) (1970) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal
Yahan wahan saare jahaan me tera raaj hai
Yahan wahan saare jahaan me tera raaj hai
jawaani O deewani tu zindabad
jawaani O deewani tu zindabad
tere hi to sar pe muhabbat ka taj hai
tere hi to sar pe muhabbat ka taj hai
jawaani O deewani tu zindabad
jawaani O deewani tu zindabad

tu bahaaron ka ishaara
besahaaron ka sahaara
tu bahaaron ka ishaara
besahaaron ka sahaara
sar pe tere
haan haan tere
bojh hai saara
tere jawaan haathon me duniya ki laaj hain
tere jawaan haathon me duniya ki laaj hain
jawaani O deewani tu zindabad
jawaani O deewani tu zindabad

tere liye qasme nahin
qasme nahin rasme nahin
tere liye qasme nahin
qasme nahin rasme nahin

haan kisi ke basme nahin
juda sabhi rasmon se tera har rivaaz hai
juda sabhi rasmon se tera har rivaaz hai

aage budhaapa sayana
peeche hai bachpan deewana
aage budhaapa sayana
saath tere

teri nazar to chaand taaron pe aaj hai

“Aan Milo Sajna” (1970) was a musical blockbuster. It had so many wonderful songs that it was difficult to keep track of them. All these days I thought that I had posted most of these songs, but I just realised that I had posted very few songs from this movie.

To make amends, here is one song from this movie. It is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Asha Parekh and Rajesh Khanna. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist and Laxmikant Pyarelal composed the music.

song-Tere kaaran tere karan tere kaaran mere saajan(Aan Milo Sajna) (1970) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD- Laxmikant Pyarelal
Lyrics
tere kaaran, tere kaaran
tere kaaran mere saajan
tere kaaran, tere kaaran
tere kaaran mere saajan
jaag ke phir so gayi
sapnon mein kho gayi
aag lage saari duniyaa ko
main teri ho gayi re baalmaa
tere kaaran, tere kaaran
tere kaaran mere saajan

aajaa
preetam kitnaa hi bulaaye
na jaanu laaj ne rokaa
ho o
preetam kitnaa hi bulaaye
na jaanu laaj ne rokaa
par aadhi raat mein uthke
chhupke milte hi maukaa
ho
ye gayi wo gayi
sapnon mein kho gayi
aag lage saari duniyaa ko
main teri ho gayi re balam ji
tere kaaran, tere kaaran
tere kaaran mere saajan

nikli ye soch ke ghar se
sainyyaa se mil aaungi
ho ho o
nikli ye soch ke ghar se
sainyyaa se mil aaungi
pal do pal thahar ke jaldi
main waapas aa jaaungi
ho o
piyaa milan ko gayi
to sapnon mein kho gayi
aag lage saari duniyaa ko
main teri ho gayi re balaama
tere kaaran, tere kaaran
tere kaaran mere saajan

rang laayaa chori chori
ye milnaa teraa meraa
ho o o
rang laayaa chori chori
ye milnaa teraa meraa
raaton kaa pataa chalaa na
baaton mein huaa saweraa
haay
neend meri so gayi
sapnon mein kho gayi
aag lage saari duniyaa ko
main teri ho gayi re balam ji
tere kaaran, tere kaaran
tere kaaran mere saajan
tere kaaran, tere kaaran
tere kaaran mere saajan
tere kaaran, tere kaaran
tere kaaran mere saajan
tere kaaran, tere kaaran
tere kaaran mere saajan

“Aan Milo Sajna” (1970) was a musical blockbuster, as I have mentioned in the past while posting songs from this movie.

Here is the title song from this movie. This song “rang rang ke phool khile hain.. ab aan milo sajnaa” was a very popular song of its time. This song is sung by Lata and Rafi. Anand Bakshi wrote the song an Laxmikant Pyarelal composed the music. Rajesh Khanna, who had emerged as the reigning superstar of Bollywood, played the lead role alongwith Asha Parekh. This song was picturised on them.

I have posted a few well known songs from “Aan Milo Sajna”(1970). There are some “lesser known ” songs in this movie. By “lesser known”, what I mean is that I was not aware about these songs being part of “Aan Milo Sajna” when everyone else did.

“Palat meri jaan tere qurbaan” is one such song. I have heard this song several times, while remaining unaware about its details. It is only yesterday that I have found that this song is from “Aan Milo Sajna” (1970).
It is a light hearted “teasing” song with a difference. In most such songs it is the boy teasing the girl, but here the roles are reversed. Here it is Asha Parekh teasing Rajesh Khanna and Rajesh Khanna is shown taking umbrage.
The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and the picturisation shows Asha Parekh, Rajesh Khanna and Junior Mehmood (Rajesh Khanna’s sidekick, who to my mind looked more like Jeetendra than Mehmood).
Anand Bakshi is the lyricist and Laxmikant Pyarelal composed the music.

Song-Palat meri jaan tere qurbaan (Aan Milo Sajna) (1970) Singer-Asha Bhonsle,Lyrics- Anand Bakshi,MD- Laxmikant Pyarelal
Lyrics
palat meri jaan, tere qurbaan
o teraa dhyaan kidhar hai

oonchi neechi tedhi-medhi pyaar ki dagar hai
jaataa kidhar hai, rastaa idhar hai

o teraa dhyaan kidhar hai

jaataa kidhar hai, rastaa idhar hai
aajaaa

aayaa kyaa zamaanaa
ladke ladkiyon se darte hain
arre aayaa kyaa zamaanaa
ladke ladkiyon se darte hain
aankhe ye churaake chhupke
gali se guzarte hain
ye mardon ke naam ko badnaam karte hain
ae! palat
palat meri jaan, tere qurbaan
o teraa dhyaan kidhar hai
oonchi neechi tedhi-medhi pyaar ki dagar hai
jaataa kidhar hai, rastaa idhar hai
oy hoy

sochaa thaa ye maine
mujhse nain wo ladaayegaa
sochaa thaa ye maine
mujhse nain wo ladaayegaa

I have posted several songs from the movie “Aan Milo Sanja” (1970). But my job is not complete until I post all the songs from musical blockbuster movies like this one.

So here is one song from this movie that was not yet posted. This song is a party song. It is sung by Rafi and it is picturised on Rajesh Khanna, with others like Asha Parekh, Vinod Khanna, Rajendranath etc also present. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Laxmikant Pyarelal composed the music.
This song is indeed one of the timeless classics that this movie had to offer.

Song-Koi nazraanaa le kar aaya hoon (Aan Milo Sajna) (1970) Singer-Rafi,Lyrics- Anand Bakshi,MD- Laxmikant Pyarelal
Lyrics
falaq se tod kar dekho sitaare dekho log laaye hain
magar main wo nahin laayaa jo saare log laaye hain

koyi nazraanaa le kar aayaa hoon main deewaanaa tere liye
koyi nazraanaa le kar aayaa hoon main deewaanaa tere liye
aaj chhalkaa hai khushiyon se dil ka paimaanaa tere liye
koyi nazraanaa le kar aayaa hoon main deewaanaa tere liye

sabhi ke dilon ko ye dhadkaa rahaa hai
samaan saaz-e-dil pe ghazal gaa rahaa hai
sabhi ke dilon ko ye dhadkaa rahaa hai
samaan saaz-e-dil pe ghazal gaa rahaa hai
saari baaten ruk gayin hain
sabki aankhen jhuk gayin hain
teri mehfil mein aayaa shaayar koyi mastaanaa tere liye
teri mehfil mein aayaa shaayar koyi mastaanaa tere liye
koyi nazraanaa le kar aayaa hoon main deewaanaa tere liye

tujhe dushmanon ki nazar lag na jaaye
rahen door tujhse sadaa gham ke saaye
tujhe dushmanon ki nazar lag na jaaye
rahen door tujhse sadaa gham ke saaye
gungunaaye tu hameshaa
muskuraaye tu hameshaa
gulshan ban jaaye ummeedon kaa har ik veeraanaa tere liye
gulshan ban jaaye ummeedon kaa har ik veeraanaa tere liye
koyi nazraanaa le kar aayaa hoon main deewaanaa tere liye
aaj chhalkaa hai khushiyon se dil ka paimaanaa… tere liye
